Basil, rosemary, flowers and more!

My name is Marissa and I’m addicted to Pinterest.  There I said it! Ha! And I’m not ashamed in the least bit.  I’ve found some great ideas on there.  Below is one of them.

Take a milk jug, cut in half almost leaving one side uncut.  Fill with soil, drop in seeds, water, tape lid back on = instant greenhouse!  We planted basil, rosemary, dill, cilantro and a mix of flowers.  We already have basil sprouts! We only planted them last week.

He was very careful with planting the seeds one at a time!

Johnson/Gaither visit

Two weeks ago Jeremy’s parents and sister’s family came to visit.  Grandpa and grandma were smart and stayed in a hotel while the Johnson’s stayed with us.  The boys had lots of fun and worked on sharing.  Ha.

One day we visited the Lied’s Discovery Children’s Museum. They had a cool Curious George exhibit. Caedman was the only one I could get a good picture of sitting with George.  This museum is really cool and has a lot of fun stuff for kids to do.

The next day we went to the Hoover Dam!

After walking across the dam we went to Lake Mead for a yummy picnic lunch and the ranger said we could feed the fish and ducks at the marina.  So of course we had to go buy two huge bags of popcorn!

While we were at Lake Mead we walked a couple miles down the Historic Railroad Trail and went through three cool tunnels.  The path was used by the railroad to get supplies to the Hoover Dam during construction.

Valley of Fire.  We are actually going back here tomorrow we liked it so much.  The boys loved it because there were so many rocks to climb on.

We discovered Ty is quite the little climber.  He actually cried when we had to leave.

We had a great time and are so glad they were able to come visit!

St. Patty’s Day and Cousins!!!

The Johnson's will be here in 30 minutes.  Ty has been talking about his cousins all week!  We have a fun week planned and can’t wait to get started!

We started out the morning at the St. Patty’s Day Parade in old town Henderson.  It was super windy and colder than we expected so we only stayed for about an hour.

Red Rock

Last weekend we went hiking at Red Rock.  Warning to those who go in the future – distance and level of difficulty printed on trail maps is wrong!  We picked a 6 mile easy/moderate hike.  Two miles in we discovered it was a difficult hike.  But we had already gone this far and figured we could finish the 4 miles left on the loop…we were wrong.  According to our google tracker the hike was 8 miles and 1200 ft of elevation.  The map said 400.  We did finally make it back to the truck, it just took an hour longer than expected. 

These were everywhere.  You really had to watch where you walked and stay on the trail.

Almost done and we walked through a herd of big horn sheep. 

If you look closely you can see the big horn sheet behind and to the left of Jeremy and Ty in this picture.  Ty’s face says it all about the length of this hike.

Reading Corner

We have a small collection of books, but we got to the library at least once a week and get a bag full. Ty loves going to the library and loves reading his books.

We were getting ready to leave the house this morning, I went to get him and this is what I found.

The alphabet behind him is made with vinyl stickers and he loves to recite his ABC’s before naptime or bedtime.  This is one of his favorite books below because he can look and see what is behind each door.

New undies!

Well, it’s official – Ty is potty trained!  We start potty training at the end of the December.  The first three days were pretty rough but since then it’s been smooth sailing. We did the three day method and then no diapers or pullups except for nap and bedtime.  For the last two weeks we’ve been getting through naptime dry so we went to the store to buy Ty’s first undies!  He helped me pick them out and wanted to hold them right away saying “mine!”  He has a set of Cars and a set of Thomas underwear now.  It took awhile to convince him to wear them, but then I just stopped asking and just put them on and he didn’t even mind. Silly boy!
